White plaster
Dimensions: 8,5 x 9,8 x 4,5 cm
Produced as part of the exhibition La Manufacture at Greenhouse, Saint-Etienne, from March 14 to 31, 2013.
On the occasion of the Saint-Etienne International Design Biennial, the association Greenhouse stages a production line in its premises. This ephemeral factory has invited artists and designers to propose objects reproduced in plaster and sold exclusively during the event. This project goes beyond a simple exhibition. It combines creation, design, manufacturing and distribution, in a laboratory that allows us to position ourselves with regard to the current issues of object production. it also refers to the local heritage, to the particular relationship of the city to the manufacturing industry. I proposed to exploit the fireproof qualities of plaster to make a hexagonal ashtray, in the shape of a nut. Its natural white color gradually darkens in the center. Left outside, it disintegrates little by little and finally disappears.
