Coulisses, 2013
Scenographic device. Acoustic curtains, rods, slings.
Variable dimensions.
Collection FRAC Nouvelle-Aquitaine MÉCA since 2014.
Coulisses is a modular scenography developed for the FRAC Aquitaine and inaugurated in 2013 on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Fonds Régional d’Art Contemporain*. Allowing the visitors to apprehend artworks in an intimate way - as opposed to exhibitions based on more rigid scholarly discourses - the project consists of a series of thick and colourful curtains hung on metal rods arranged in regular concentric circles. Reminiscent of the world of theatre, the setting guides the visitors through an immersive and non-linear journey, inviting them to wander and to look at the artworks from different perspectives. Furthermore, thanks to their acoustic qualities, the curtains enable the isolation of sound installations, thus ensuring comfort and intimacy; a set of characteristics often missing in the vast open exhibition space of the FRAC Aquitaine, which was previously an old hangar.
