Video triptych, three mosaics
In collaboration with Manon Recordon
This work was realized as part of the 1% artistic contribution to the construction of the aquatic center in Dax, France.
The work takes the form of a double triptych, three video images presented side by side in the hall, then three large format still images, made in glass mosaic by the Italian company Bisazza. We were concerned to build an artistic proposal in close connection with the stories that such a place is likely to inspire to its visitors. Our proposal is fragmented. It proposes a path that evolves in space and time, accompanying the public in its movements. This progression along which we discover various films and mosaics is composed of three registers of images which naturally imposed themselves to us: mineral, vegetable and aquatic intertwine - in the videos - by a game of assembly, shifts and superpositions. The Roman baths of Caracalla cross the decorations of the Villa Livia, the heritage of Dax mixes with the Italian vestiges. The mosaics, for their part, are composed exclusively of aquatic images made in Stromboli. They reactivate, in a contemporary way, from digital tools, the images that were once present in this type of bath buildings.
