Les Fossiles, 2020
Solid stone, bronze, lacquered steel.

Work carried out as part of the 1% artistic contribution to the construction of the Miriam Makeba secondary school in Aubervilliers, Seine Saint-Denis, France.

Produced in bronze and solid stone, in three different colored sandstone from three different quarries in the Pyrenees, these modules will stand the test of time and weather. They are at the same time sculpture, urban furniture and theater stages. The objects make up four sets that the artist has entitled: Amas of tumbled columns, Burkino landscape, Industrial heritage, and Pompeian house, and in which students can gather, sit, and share.
In each of these “playlets” there is a fossil on one of the stone sculptures that has been intentionally carved or hollowed out. This detail gives the title to this work. It refers us, in the words of the artist, “to the immeasurable scale of time necessary for the constitution of these mineral blocks, and in which man is nothing”.
