Work realized in situ. Maladrerie Saint Lazare, Beauvais (France), from June 15th 2021 to October 15th 2023.
Cuccagna is a work installed for three years in the courtyard of the Maladrerie Saint-Lazare in Beauvais. At its heart is a wood-fired oven that allows for the production of bread and meals during events scheduled on the site. The work plays a functional role but also a symbolic one by echoing the closed and autarkic world that was this space in the Middle Ages. There was certainly a common oven for the community on this site.
Cuccagna takes the form of a massive, mineral, conical and white volume, simply placed on the ground. Geometric and monumental, it faces the austere gable of the 13th century barn in a silent dialogue between two eras. Some sawn trunks are scattered around and serve as seats for the users, before joining the interior fire.
