Orchestre, 2019
Twenty-six elements in solid stone

Work realized for the extension of the University of Aix-Marseille in Aix-en-Provence, France.

Made of lava stone and marble, Orchestre is a family of 26 urban seats, designed as abstract letters, situated on the piazza of the campus of the Université des Lettres et Sciences Humaines, in Aix-en-Provence (France). Positioned on the perimeter of an imaginary ellipsis, the whole is a reference to the stage of antique amphitheatres, then known as “orchestra”. Conceived as a space for dialogue in the city, the project also echoes the history of writing which, from the Egyptian hieroglyphs to the Rosetta Stone, is engraved in stone.
